The Real Meaning of Spring Break

Well, the countdown has begun.  Only 7 school days until Spring Break is officially here.  I told my students the other day that I was looking forward to the break....not a break from them, but a break from all the other "stuff" that surrounds teaching.  I love my kids and if that was all I was required to do, teaching would be easy.

As I was reflecting on the thought of a much needed break, a thought came to me.  God has been challenging Gary and I to "remember the Sabbath and keep it holy."  We live in a society that doesn't know how to take a break of any kind.  Our calendars keep us instead of us keeping our calendars!  It's almost as though people brag about how much they have to do.  Me included.  The Bible is very clear that God took a day of rest, and if He set the example, shouldn't we follow?

It's easier said than done, especially when your husband is the Pastor and not going to church on Sunday is your ideal of a Sabbath.  We have started trying to set aside time each week where we do absolutely nothing but relax and refresh our minds and our bodies.

So take it from me, a Sabbath is very important!  Find time each week to be refreshed and renewed regardless of the day.  It's what a break is really all about.
